3 Steps to Glowing Skin

Skin that glows is always a worthwhile goal, and a few simple tricks will go a long way to getting you there.

1. Exercise Gives You that Glow

Getting your heart-rate up to the point your body sweats isn’t only good for your arteries and muscles, but it’s also good for your skin.

Sweating is one of the oldest ways of purifying the body. In cultures around the world, people would go into saunas created by pouring water onto hot rocks. Then they would sweat the toxins out of their systems, increasing their resistance to disease.

You can re-create the same detoxifying effect with a body wrap, full-body massage, or hot-stone massage. Steam rooms and saunas also perform this function, and they’re perfect for warming yourself to the core on a cool day.

To cleanse and tone, you need to exercise to the point of sweating for a sustained period. Of course, it’s important to make sure your body can cope with an exercise routine before you begin. Aerobics classes have come a long way from the Jane Fonda-type workouts into strengthening and toning classes that include aerobic exercise such as step and kick-boxing, as well as anaerobic weight lifting and stretching. Yoga classes can be vigorous and aimed at getting your heart rate up. At the pool, you can do laps or take an aqua-aerobic class.

Whatever form of exercise, sauna or steam-room you choose, drink plenty of water to keep your cells plumped up and your body properly hydrated.

2. Get Delicious for Younger Skin

If exercise is king, then diet is queen when it comes to a healthy body.


By discovering the fruits and vegetables that make your body happy inside, you’ll also be led to new products that nourish your skin into vibrant health.

When eating for healthy skin, include powerful anti-oxidants in your diet. Anti-oxidants help to reduce DNA damage, and renew the skin by helping to eliminate the free radicals in your body.

Unsurprisingly, they’re the ‘good for you’ foods your mother told you to eat – like spinach, broccoli, carrots and kale – but they’re also fun, new foods like goji berries and golden beets.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are oxidant-blasters, but some are more effective than others. Purple berries, such as blueberries, blackberries, and boysenberries are diet must-haves, as well as tomatoes, high in lycopene. Brew up some iced green tea for hydration and anti-oxidant benefits.

3. Beautiful Skin from the Inside – Meditations for an Inner Glow

Meditation doesn’t have to put you in a funny position chanting a mantra. It can be as simple as visualizing your happiest vacation or a goal you want to achieve. It’s perfect for trying out while you are receiving a massage, reflexology treatment, or facial. The benefits to your mind are clarity and increased focus. It also allows your muscles to completely relax so your facial skin can restore and heal itself.

An easy meditation at work can de-stress and help you focus:
– Sit in your office chair keeping your spine straight and your feet flat on the floor.
– Keep your eyes open, or close them as you wish.
– Put one hand over your belly button.
– Inflate your stomach from the belly, and then inflate your chest, which should rise.
– Deflate your chest first, then pull in your belly button.
– Do this six times, and feel yourself become more relaxed and clear.

During a massage is the perfect time to think of happy memories, particularly if you’re stressed. Try to find five happy memories, and dwell on each one as long as possible.

Getting a body wrap? Bathe yourself in light. Picture a crystal-clear stream. Then visualize stepping forward into the water, which becomes light as you enter it, spinning with rainbows. The light bathes your body, and the space all around your body, cleansing you from head to toe. When you get out of the stream, you feel completely cleansed and renewed.

Once you find the knack for meditation and visualization, you can find that calm center and those happy memories once again in traffic, at the gym, during an office break or whenever you need to feel calm and more focused.
