Spring Is The Time To Renew
12 Apr, 2016
You might not realize it, but your skin takes a serious hit in the winter. The cool, dry winter air is incredibly hard on the skin; this, combined with the lack of humidity and dry indoor heating strips your skin of its natural moisture. Leaving it dry, dull and more prone to wrinkling.
To make it worse, we often neglect to properly moisturize parts of our body that get covered up in the winter, like the feet, knees, shoulders, chest, and elbows. By the time the warmer weather arrives, you need to adjust your skin care routine to restore the lost moisture and heal the dry and irritated skin around these areas.
But a proper spring skin care routine, including body skin care, can help to revive winter-worn skin and leave it renewed and refreshed for the new season.
Spring is a great time to utilize deep exfoliation. You can exfoliate gently at home, or if you want maximum rejuvenation, specialty facial peels provided by a professional can improve the appearance of a dull, uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, blackheads and even sun damage. Break out the Vitamin C as well. This wonder ingredient will help provide antioxidants to help boost your sun protection while helping prevent those pesky brown spots the sun shine can bring out.
Body polishes or salt glows are great ways to exfoliate dry, dull skin. The combination of the fine granules of salt or sugar mixed with nourishing oils leaves you skin soft and silky smooth. Applying a light body oil or lotion while your skin is still damp from your bath or shower is a great way to seal in moisture afterward.
Don’t forget your feet! Covered and hidden all winter we tend to forget about our feet until we put on a pair of sandals. The heel is a tough area to keep moisturized and tends to crack and peel. Natural pumice stones will help remove dried dead skin while a heavy moisturizer applied in the morning and evening will help heal the cracked skin. Products containing alpha hydroxy acids will help speed up the exfoliation process.
Save time and adopt a new spring skin care routine at the same time as spring cleaning. Go through all of your cosmetics and facial products and toss anything that you no longer use, anything that’s changed in smell or consistency, dirty makeup utensils (sponges, brushes, etc.), and any products that may be expired. If in doubt; toss it out!
